A Love-Filled Day at The Stair Arms, Pathhead

Laura and Cameron’s wedding at The Stair Arms Hotel in Pathhead, Midlothian was bursting with personality, laughter and love. Every detail was carefully thought out and beautifully personal — from handmade decorations to surprise dance routines and even their dogs making a star appearance!

This gorgeous Midlothian wedding was the perfect mix of romance and fun, all set within the rustic charm of The Stair Arms, one of my favourite Scottish countryside wedding venues.

Family, Familiar Faces & the Warmest Start

This wedding was extra special for me because I’d photographed Laura’s brother Ross and his wife Laura the previous year — and this Laura had been a bridesmaid at their wedding.
It felt like reuniting with old friends, and it’s always such a privilege to capture multiple family celebrations and see familiar faces again.

A Ceremony to Remember: Dancing Groomsmen & Adorable Arrivals

Cameron and his groomsmen kicked off the ceremony with an unforgettable dance routine down the aisle — the perfect icebreaker that had everyone cheering and laughing. It was such a fun, light-hearted start to a day filled with emotion.

One of the most adorable moments came when little Willow made her entrance in a remote-controlled car, stealing everyone’s hearts as she rolled down the aisle in style.

Cameron’s heritage, with roots in both South Africa and England, added even more depth and meaning to the day. The ceremony beautifully reflected their love story and their families coming together.

Confetti, Dogs, and Handmade Magic

After the ceremony, the newlyweds were showered in handmade confetti crafted by the bride herself — a wonderful DIY touch that added extra colour and joy to the moment.

Then came a very special surprise — the couple’s dogs arrived for some portraits! They bounded over with tails wagging, adding a perfect dose of happiness (and a few paw prints) to the day’s photos.

Creative Touches: Disney Magic & Forrest Gump Fun

Laura poured her heart into creating every detail of their reception. She made all the table centrepieces by hand — each a beautifully painted lantern featuring a different Disney story, glowing softly throughout the evening and creating such a magical, personal atmosphere.

Their Up-themed guestbook was another standout — a charming nod to one of their favourite films, reminding everyone that “adventure is out there.”

And who could forget their incredible Forrest Gump photo setup, complete with props and quotes from the film? Guests loved it, and it made for some of the most joyful, character-filled images of the day.

Stunning Portraits in Midlothian

As the day went on, we slipped outside to capture some portraits around The Stair Arms grounds. The soft spring light over Pathhead’s countryside created a dreamy backdrop for Laura and Cameron’s portraits — calm, natural, and full of love.

Music, Laughter & One Very Special Performance

As night fell, the party truly came alive. The Splendid Gentleman band filled the room with energy, and the dance floor was packed from the first song.

One of the most unforgettable moments was when Laura got up to sing with the band — her voice, her joy, and the crowd’s reaction summed up the entire day perfectly. It was pure magic.
